Use Formula & Not Cow's Milk For Your Baby
Only cow's milk formula for babies under 12 months.
Whole cow's milk is not suitable for babies under 12 months. Use breastmilk or formula as the main drink until baby is a year old. Infants fed cow's milk before one year of age are at particular risk of developing depleted iron stores.
Most infant formula is based on cow's milk.
The Food Standard Code for infant formula requires that infant formula (under 6 months of age) meets the complete energy and nutritional needs of a healthy full-term infant up to 6 months of age. Around 6 months of age, an infant should also be receiving complementary foods.
